Anya Taylor-Joy rode home on VOD last week with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the results thus far are all shiny and chrome. The latest adventure in George Miller’s cinematic wasteland topped the iTunes VOD chart for July 1 and similarly lorded over the competition on the Fandango at Home chart for June 24 through 30. It’s a slight bit of redemption for the critically acclaimed blockbuster actioner after it fell surprisingly flat at the box office with only $171.3 million globally against an estimated $168 million budget. Previously, the top spot on both charts had been held by John Krasinski’s family comedy IF.
iTunes and Fandango both utilize different measures for their respective charts, meaning Furiosa dominated both in terms of the number of transactions and total revenue. Audiences are clearly still interested in seeing how Imperator Furiosa became the powerful leader seen in Mad Max: Fury Road, even if many didn’t show up when the film graced theaters in late May. It seemingly marks the continuation of a trend that has troubled the industry of late, as viewers have shown they’re more than willing to wait for the relatively quick turnaround of digital releases rather than go out to see movies on the biggest screen possible with some exceptions. David Leitch’s The Fall Guy similarly struggled at the box office with a starry duo of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt failing to draw crowds until its VOD release.
Could not notice any cgi in the theater but at home yeah, but I would prefer this more than unhealthy productions. The movie is peak entertainment. Not a masterpiece like fury road but pretty damn fun.
I don’t understand how people can say this. I saw both mad max movies in theaters, and the CG was so immersion breaking in both for me. Not just bits of odd looking shots here or there, but the majority of the movies. It looks like they did sky replacement or some other monkeying around. All the lighting looks off and there’s that classic grey-washing on edges throughout. I don’t know what I’m talking about; I just know it looks ass to me and I wish it didn’t because they’re fun movies.
I prefer movies like these than whatever the fk avatar 2 was. And immersion is idk, you can enjoy theatre performances even if the set is nothing. The bikes getting craned up in the first dementus vs evil guy was super rough. Other than that, it was very much fine for me.
- Mad Max 3 :Thunderdome
- Mad Max 4 : Fury road
- Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior
- Mad Max: Video Game 2015 - (Not a movie, but great immersive world building)
- Mad Max 5 : Furiousia
- Mad Max 1
It’s a good film, the opening CGI sound stage was disappointing and probably turned off some reviewers, but ignore that and it’s a fine member of the franchise. Like its totally a good movie to watch in the theater and bring a date with, fun times, no real complaints. It’s only down in the list because the other entries were SO ICONIC!
Wowzers. This is a mad take. Thunderdome on top? Good for you 🤣
Ok… I’ll justify it by the iconic moments i still remember
- Mad Max 3: Thunderdome
-
- Two men enter - one man leaves
-
- Break a deal - spin the wheel
-
- Ragady man has LOTS of guns hidden in his EDC
- Mad Max 4 : Fury Road
-
- Witness me!
-
- Guitar Guy
- Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior
-
- Walk away, Just Walk Away
-
- It was all a sand trick! Max threw his life away for sand!!
-
- The whole story was told through the eyes of murder boomerang kid in his old age!
- Mad Max 5 : Furiousia
-
- The nipple clamps getting pulled out of thor was wild
- Mad Max 1
-
- So terrible, so bad, how did 2 get funded?
Best reply ever. My hat off to you, dude.
Thunderdome will always be bottom of the list for me, but I no longer think you’re criminally insane :) You did remind me that Masterblaster was a thing. So thanks for that!
Did you watch mad max 1? No way that’s better then thunderdome. It barely made any narrative sense.
Or is something in thunderdome specifically irritating you? The naked saxophone blind guy?
I guess there’s something crude and fierce about Mad Max 1 that I find really endearing. Maybe it’s not a good film, but it’s got an enormous amount of heart. You can tell Miller was gonna be big from the first :)
When only the first three existed, which was true for my whole childhood, Thunderdome felt like too big a departure from the grit and grime of the first two. It felt sort of overinflated and a camp.
Argylle has a chance if it can escape the apple walled garden. It’s almost as bad as being launched exclusively on paramount.
Yeah, I enjoyed Argylle when I saw it in.the cinema, it"s a pity more people haven’t got to see it since.
Had too much noticeable CG for my liking really hurt my overall enjoyment of it unfortunately. It also honestly could have been 30 minutes shorter, but that’s a criticism I have of nearly all movies coming out lately.
Sorry, what did your liking hurt exactly?
I’d watch it in theaters if tickets didn’t cost at least $15 with additional service fees if you try buying them online.
I wish our theaters were that cheap
So yeah we watched this. First half was pretty ok, but you know, just felt like it was coasting off Fury Road…and the middle bit got…a bit long and the last part…holy fuck would someone please kill Thor and shut him the fuck up …my god the movie could have. should have ended so much earlier.
I disagree. The ending was quite satisfying. It wasn’t like the captain marvel ending.
