I’m an Arctic kind of person, and in two weeks I’ll be in a desert, working, while it’s 40C in the shade. Looking for tips.

One thing I know for sure is to stay inside AC environments as much as I can while binging water.

Pretty good. Got paid on Monday, and that’s always nice. After summer holiday, school and everything else is now back to normal, so it’s pleasantly quiet at home during day time. I’ve made some headway when it comes to refurbishing one of the bedrooms in the house, so with a little bit of luck I’ll be ready to finish one of the walls next week.

A career in what was only a hobby when I was 16. And I’ve gotten to visit far corners of the world as part of it.

UPDATE 1:
Found one, Rhea. She’s been outside over night. She’s now eating, and knowing her she’ll snooze in the couch for an hour before going out into the rain again (She’s an all weather kind of cat. Them birds aren’t going to torment themselves now, are they?)

Still no idea where Luna is. She usually stays hidden most of the day only to spontaneous materialize out of nowhere in the evening.

Another update: Rhea is now done eating. She’s currently making sure that the couch is properly dead before her nap.

Aaaand Rhea is gone again. Luna still nowhere to be found.

Good suggestion, but sadly I didn’t think about it at the time. He got to pick food and evening snacks, though, the latter on which he would’ve probably spent the money anyway.

I was digging through some old storage devices which contained music that I recorded and arranged 15-20 years ago. And among that stuff were three versions of the same song; the initial idea, a more refined version, and the completed thing. It was pretty cool remembering how it evolved from a progmetal riff demo to an orchestrated and complete song.

Well, I’m looking forward to relaxing weekends in general, but now I’m actually looking forward to monday: I’m taking my oldest kid (12 y.o.) with me on a three day work trip, in an effort to show him that computers are more than roblox and youtube clients. And if it sparks some interest in the long term, that’d be a bonus.

We’ll board a one hour flight on Monday morning, bound for the city where the branch office is. For starters it’s about time he visited an actual city in contrast to the rural place he’s used to.
At the office, there’s a large pile of network hardware and servers waiting, and we’ll be fitting it all into an empty rack, wiring it up, and do the initial setup.

Weekend will partially be spent as a short introductory on what we’re going to do, how, and why. Hopefully we have time to set up IPMI, because there are three machines that will be set up identically, and I hope that by the time we get to the 4th, he can install debian 12.

Yeah, that’s one of my issues with receiving gifts. If it’s something I need or want, I would’ve probably gotten it myself already. For my 40th I received a six pack of beer and a small wallet type card holder that I was routinely complaining about being impossible to find. Those plus this cast iron pan are among my favorite gifts.

Because the connector you think of as DB-9 is ackschually a DE-9 connector. A DB-9 connector would somehow be the width of those 25-pin parallel port connectors, but holding only 9 pins.

D is for D-subminiature
Second letter is the connector housing size (A through E)
The number is the amount of pins.

While I’m waiting on Factorios expansion and Zomboid build 42, I’m catching up on some other titles. I didn’t learn until recently that War for the Overworld exists, so as an old timey dungeon keeper fan, I’m mostly playing that.

I have this thought that when I die (hopefully not any time soon), I want to be buried in a biodegradable urn with a bunch of seeds and nuts. That way the ecosystem can feast on me the way I did on it while I was alive. Bonus points if I can somehow guarantee that a tree will sprout from my grave, so that my tombstone can say “here grows…” instead of “here lies…”

My GF: “Why is my hairbrush on the floor?”
Me: “Don’t touch, there’s poop on it!”

Context: This happened 12 years ago. I was changing the diaper of my then 1 year old, and I gave him a hairbrush to distract him so that he’d lay still. He whacked it into the freshly opened poop diaper.

Spending the holiday at home. Started a new job (well, same job, new employer) recently, so there was a bit of uncertainty about my work schedule, so we decided to take it easy at home, and instead go visit family up north when the kids have vacation from school in October.

I don’t mind the delay, I just wish we could’ve done it in the summer instead - I haven’t had a proper Arctic summer in years. It doesn’t feel like summer to me when the sun sets before 23:00
