Talk about digging one’s own grave.
The big thing is that the Deck uses Linux which allows Steam to provide an amazing interface
For most people, i think it’s just that it has a good UI. They don’t bother whether it’s linux-powered. Maybe it’s possible to create a good UI in windows as well, but it will be bogged down by 100s of unwanted processes.
I’m sure Microsoft’s answer will be an Edge-powered handheld interface with the entire W11 OS underneath.
Looks like I really need to check gyro aiming.
You could also attach a keyboard and mouse, though I think that that kind of eliminates the point of the Deck, at least as long as one also has a PC to play on – it might make sense for someone who just uses a Deck and a phone.
In the worst case, i’ll buy a dock and play the FPS games via M/K. I am slowing getting better at slow third person games. Racing and platformers are not an issue. Other than FPS, the Steam Deck is very nice.
On a controller, if you’re slightly off center, suddenly it isn’t as simple, because the joystick is overly sensitive and so to move 1cm is a lighting fast action input, meaning that you’re almost guaranteed to overshoot it, unless your joystick sensitivity is super low.
This has been the biggest problem for me. I can’t aim at the enemies when are very far (small hitbox). I have been trying to strafe and put them on my crosshair but it needs a very different skill. I have been hearing a lot of people talking about FlickStick. I have to look it up.
Thanks! I’ll try to understand the concept of deadzone. I have Minecraft, this should be perfect!
Nice, I have both the Superhots. Begin the install!!
L2P n00b! /J

I am currently playing Stray which doesn’t require fast movement. It’s slightly helping me ease into 3D movements.
It’s like coming from gamepad to arcade sticks, when playing fighting games
I’d maybe argue that this jump is not so severe but I get your point. I’ll try Doom though. I saw a couple of Doom 1-inspired games this year. I can try those.
Actually I find it exciting to learn new stuff like this and am a little bit jealous
I am enjoying the process but sometimes it’s a bit frustrating. Certain scenarios which I know are super easy on PC are a struggle. Hitting far-away targets on Risk of Rain 2, which i just flick and shoot on PC, are too difficult :(
I will keep up the grind through.
Stardew Valley + Stray + Dead cells + Ori and the Blind Forest, all on my Steam Deck.
Yes I play multiple games in case I get bored. No, I don’t have ADHD.
The SteamDeck itself is in loss leader territory.
All artwork will be deligated to AI. Photoshop discontinued. New “CS Suite With AI Agents” released. Works only with voice prompt and eye gaze.
Adobe and Microsoft Office will continue to fleece their customers. The customers will cry but they won’t do a single thing. Expect this to continue for the next 20 years.
Always open to the highest bidder
Halo MCC with a buddy of mine. It’s a blast. Halo 2 right now and will slowly move up till Halo 4.
Managed to fix the CO-OP issue faced by linux users and now working fine.
Is S mode really that popular? I’ve never seen that in an enterprise setting. End users won’t want S mode because it will limit functionality.
Suddenly people have to track not only if a game runs on Steam Deck, but also explain them on top of Proton and all other stuff that they need an alternate version. The website for the games would need to list both compatibility too. It’s a mess.
I didn’t think of this. Thanks.
Someone mentioned this below but having an immutable filesystem should be proof enough that it’s a secure gaming device and should immediately be allowed by an anti-cheat system. But I guess game devs really need their “I-need-to-monitor-everything” itch scratched so we are still stuck with Linux incompatibility.
I would not approve your suggestion (note I did not downvote, because you just want to discuss this).
Cheers buddy! I just wanted to know the community’s views about this. ✌🏻
With secure boot, combined with a signed kernel and initramfs, and basic TPM keys, every official Steam Deck can have full hardware attestation the same way mobile phones and some laptops do. This, combined with existing anti cheat solutions, can work to detect cheating.
This. We already have a secure environment for gaming. At this point, it’s essentially better than what Windows is offering. The only reason game devs carefully ignore this issue is because of market share.
What’s even more funny is that they already have two, somewhat decent, interfaces which are meant for touch; Win8 tablet UI and Windows Phone Live Tiles UI.
If they want, they can easily work upon them, make them controller-friendly, and bake it into Win11. But they are too stubborn to do it.
