What are large, wealthy countries trying to do in these instances? Win hearts and minds? Set a country up for success? Give them tools for self determination? No, it always seems to be for exploitation.
I am curious what would be legitimately helpful.
So this is the Cass Report I’ve seen mentioned over the last few days. Disappointing. I accept that there will be a lot of back and forth discussion amongst those in the relavent fields, but to disregard large bodies of evidence and to use outdated judgment models seems disingenuous at best. Sure, there can be disagreement about certain aspects, but the folks who this affects the most don’t have time to dump what seems best now in exchange for only waiting. I can’t imagine they will regret trying something now that, in ten years, may no longer be viewed as solid policy. We have so many examples of this that may not be directly related, but still saved and changed lives.
I’m in a position to buy old vehicles only. My current vehicle is more than 20 years old, and I don’t plan to replace it soon. However, from my view, the sooner more options exist, the sooner folks like myself won’t be driving otherwise reliable, but more polluting, vehicles. I don’t even drive that much, about 1000 miles this year. So I could be driving what, 6000 or 7000 miles a year but having a smaller impact, but not until something like 2040 or even later at this rate.
Anyway, why push back? My winter climate isn’t ideal for electric but people do it and I expect that to improve over time. We need it now, so others can have it then. My thoughts. For disclosure, I wasn’t able to read the article. I apologize if I am off point 🙂
That was an exciting read! Pretty neat how quickly steps were taken to attempt prevention of further damage.
From what I have read, this person has been blowing the whistle for multiple years. Something changed, recently. Not good. Not cool. It is sad.

There is a phone by unihertz but their phones tend to run dated OSes. I have had good lick with what @TheBest said. People either break phones, or don’t, it seems.

As discussed in the article, of was never really about religion. It was about rhetoric. The bar for Democrats to keep states like Iowa blue was so incredibly low, requiring only action. But none could be taken, and it will now be incredibly difficult to overcome this loss.
Trying to be positive - I just read an article about diseases being eradicated in multiple countries. That is great, and I hope that trend will continue. We are seeing some interesting work done with disease treatment. So, on that front, I think some of the research that has been ongoing in a number of illnesses will result in something tangible that can be published. Cancer vaccine? Dimentia prevention? New way to manage a surprise respiratory virus?

I actually joined kbin specifically because it had both of these features. I have read some microblogs, but haven’t determined how I fit in with that culture enough to interact. Magazines are more like the bulletin boards of the past, which I am very familiar with. I like the opportunity to interact with the microblogs, tho, and don’t expect to create another account just for that. I like this setup very much!
I didn’t know there were any apps for kbin, but using a browser to begin with, it seems pretty seamless. The link opens, then I hit back and I am back at the thread.

The color of that peach fuzz reminds me of the rotary in our kitchen where I lived as a kid. An option besides black or white is nice!
