@Riven Probably phones without headphone jacks are those that can no longer be used as regular FM radios - as the antenna was actually the headset (at least that’s my experience) - and another reason why phones without the jack suck. Never had a phone with a built-in FM antenna FWIW.
But yea, I do get your point. Phones could do so much more than accessing Facebook, Instagram and posting photos there or something like that.

Yea 😁 There are plenty of other FOSS games that are also in the Steam Store as well, like OpenTTD, Battle for Wesnoth or Red Eclipse

@shortwavesurfer There’s no way you compare something as mundane as this to mass murder. And be sure that every country’s government has all the means necessary to prosecute you for stuff like this, sooner or later.
Anyway, for me there are some useful such apps that I use:
* One is for my city’s public transit - really useful, it even displays the vehicle position in real time so you can make up your mind on your route.
* One is for train tickets (you can also do related stuff as well, like check if your train is late).
* One is to check if there are any breakdowns in the heat distribution system to see if I won’t have heat overnight.
I’m sure as hell there are some others, but I did not need them so far. If the government was to spy on me, it could install some malware or some sort without resorting to the Play Store.

@Blaze A colleague of mine had the M8. Man, what a great device! It had awesome cameras for that time and could even record videos in slow motion. Nowadays, I take this feature for granted for the last 3 phones I had, but at that time this just seemed revolutionary!

@GadgeteerZA it’s not really that new, it’s been around for as long as Mastodon got the first boost back in Autumn 2022 (at least that’s when I first heard about it, something like that). There’s plenty of other microblogging servers out there, as microblogging is overwhelmingly served via AP and not only. There’s even a Nextcloud app for that.

@BearOfaTime That’s odd. My experience with micro USB cables is actually the poorer one. Cables would have their pins worn down all the time and become loose. My current phone has USB C and I had no problem so far. I use the same cable since I purchased it.
@Blaze It is larger than I thought, indeed 😁 but I see they still tend to stick with stock Android even though they’re not really releasing any android one phones any longer.

@Blaze I’m not buying phones that often, but I recently changed to a Nokia G22 (yes, they also have phones with jack), and one of the things that made me decide on that was the jack as well. I got a pair of wireless headsets from work and I can say they’re pretty good, but I am still not over the thought that I have one more thing to charge its battery every once in a while. Wired headphones are pretty much okay and I don’t see any problem with them that would make me switch (at least right now).
Edit: I almost forgot. I also listen to the (FM) Radio, so I need the wired headsets to be used as an antenna.

@Riven Yea, it also needs the software. Here in Romania, every phone I’ve owned had an FM Radio app preinstalled, including the current one. Didn’t try any jackless phone to see if it’s there as well, and if yes, how does it work.
