I agree with a lot of the assertions of this article, except I would probably first recommend Camunda 7 or 8 over SWF. Camunda is developer friendly, open source and has more mature offerings. A large part of the value of adopting process orchestration tools is the ability to support a model -> run -> monitor & optimize type of closed loop cycle. Camunda does this very well.
