No matter how you slice it, there’s a gap between how the economy is doing and how Americans feel about it.

Why do they keep insisting that we are the ones that are wrong? The economy isn’t their numbers. The economy is a real thing, proper operation of which ensures well fed people.

The purpose of an economy is to fond optimal distribution of resources for people. Ultimately it’s people that need all the things, right? Either things are materials to produce things for people, or products useful to help other products reach people.

If the people think that’s not working, it isn’t working. They’re not just parroting what they see on the news, they’re living day by day, minute by minute in this environment. They see what day to day life costs for them. They’re wrong but the eggheads tracking the over fitted model are right? When a measure becomes a goal it ceases to be a good measure, that’s where the disconnect is. If you want to fix the economy then quit pretending your metrics are more important than people’s standard of living.

Slightly unrelated, why is it that these tech product promos always feature nondescript happy people having the time of their life on their phones? They’re reaching drug commercial levels of uncanny at this point. Corpo marketing has gotten so bland, everyone watching it nowadays just feels like they’re being manipulated.

Most communists on Lemmy would be put against the wall by the CCP. Agitators are useful until the party has power. After that they’re troublemakers.

This is proof to me that the federated model has failed. I was so hopeful early on in the fediverse, I thought it was all we needed. I no longer feel that way. It’s not a network of users, its a network of power tripping fiefdoms.

Also a couple of UI apps, BarLauncher, which is a notification thing that let’s you put app icons to launch from the notification drop down, and LaunchyWidget, like a scrolling “fence” to dump app icons in on your home screen. They’re both so simple, I’m surprised that nobody has built FOSS versions of them.

On my PC I don’t use any proprietary software at all.
