Not that I know of, I meant it could be put in a pressurised spray bottle, for example a deodorant can

If it’s bolted to a wall and unattended neither of those things are an option
You don’t necessarily need to put it into the air supply, could just bathe the specific device you want disabled in helium from a deodorant can or something
It was going so well until it started talking about white privilege and the Holocaust…
It’s good enough and everyone has it and knows it
I’m not about to even attempt to ask someone in a game if they’ve got matrix because the answer is going to be no
Discord’s own Linux client is kinda ass and keeps breaking my build using old insecure electron versions/forcing you to update before you can use the app while not being up to date in my package manager
Gotta use a custom client anyway to keep my sanity intact
Given it’s all entirely self host able if you use a different client I’m not sure how they could be
Unless there’s some binary blobs hidden in the repo but you’d think someone would have pointed that out by now
Does the whole encryption/decryption thing still bother you if you self host?
I tried out the app, the value there is that it’s ready to go straight away, though I took it all down again because my messages being unencrypted on someone else’s server makes me uneasy. May end up self hosting it for that reason and not using anything closed source
So after all that it was just a mechanical turk situation
It did say the workers were labelling the videos, so presumably they were trying to train an AI
I’m not sure about on iOS, on android if you long press on any notification and go to disable it there are a bunch of toggleable notification categories
True, not a personal human action though. I pretty much always want to see messages from people, but most of the time don’t care about stream notifications
At least they normally let you selectively disable promotions
This except for twitch streams
I used to do this but it ended up in me missing notifications I actually cared about
The best solution is as someone else mentioned, just mute apps that send obnoxious notifications when you see them
Different notification sounds for different kinds of notifications has been big as well, one for messages, a different one for twitch streams, and another for everything else that normally gets ignored
Do I need to worry about this not being in the US? I’m wary of the way I word my opt out incase it causes me some issues down the line
Jesus some of the names of the blocked instances are disturbing as hell
I don’t think anyone’s ditching mainstream social media en masse though are they? Sure a bunch of us have but let’s be honest 90% of Lemmy/mastodon users are of a very similar demographic and not exactly a huge chunk of the population
I don’t think that’s a perfect system anyway though, spammers could create a massive tree of fake accounts and just only use a small proportion of them for spam
Use a number of compromised user accounts to set this up and it becomes a nightmare
Just because you can take a hammer to it doesn’t mean that’s the best solution
In the right situation I imagine it could be a useful tool, much more subtle than just smashing the thing, less time consuming than taking it apart
