Agreed. FSR 3 really is amazing and I’d gladly use that to pull a few more years of playing my favorite games on 720p low.

Upscalers are great for portables I just hope it’s not used to excuse poor optimization.

That said I only play fps on my desktop, the steam deck opens up an entirely different class of games for me.

Download game, enable offline mode on your steam deck for vacation.

Open game on the plane, in offline mode, get booted from game because you can’t log in.

I honestly don’t understand why games don’t simply use something like Android does.

If I have a 720p monitor, download lower res assets and a smaller game. If I have a 4k monitor, download all the pixels and consume 100gb.

It mentions that the work from Valve was for accessory support. So they may not be extending that much effort towards getting it on specific devices. Rather, I think they’re working on generic PC support on the side.

The exciting thing I am taking from this, specifically because of the ROG Ally are two things:

• Valve intends to support nvidia drivers in SteamOS (the ROG Dock)
• Valve intends to ensure eGPUs are a good experience on SteamOS

If these do make it to fruition that would be a huge benefit overall for Linux gaming.

I don’t have a stable experience with Plasma.

I also find a lot of the defaults frustrating.

One example is no easy option to replicate Windows / Gnome window management shortcuts. I want to be able to super + down to always minimize.

That said I would love for a focus on stability.
