I get your point, but this metaphor would be more applicable if historically every human on earth murdered someone during their lifetime. I think Steam/Valve will remain the same as long as their current leadership is in place. 999 times out of 1000, once the original founders are gone, any company begins the enshittification process, whether it’s a major business like Valve or a local chain of grocery stores.
How are either of those a monopoly? A monopoly generally means you only have one option and that option is taking advantage of their outrageous market share by jacking up prices.
Where I live the only broadband internet is Comcast which is why I pay 2-3x more for my service than comparable services in areas where they don’t have a monopoly (or areas with sane regulations).
Saying that you’ll not earn as much money if you don’t put your game on steam doesn’t mean steam has a monopoly, it just means you’re not getting as much reach as you could. Being popular doesn’t equate to being a monopoly.

This is nothing new though. For decades, managers have fallen for “solution in a box” sales pitches even though front line workers know it’s doomed to fail as soon as they set eyes on it. This time the solution just happens to be “AI.”

I as well. At the very least, we need some fucking differences in the market. Every phone doesn’t have to be the same. Imagine the car market if all we could buy were Chrysler 300s. It looks sleek and nice but will crap out on you in a couple years and doesn’t really fit in well with your career as a general contractor. This shows how far the market has fallen away from innovation when the big new feature is that you don’t have to do a simple restart (which can be prescheduled for a convenient time) for the very occasional update.
Them telling drivers to meticulously clean the vehicles doesn’t necessarily mean they’re afraid its going to rust. They’re probably concerned with staining and junk getting embedded into the panels. In the forum post, you can actually see a little bit of staining circling some of the debris on the panels. Furthermore, iron particles can get on the panel and rust themselves even though the actual panel itself isn’t rusting. This is why they make iron decontamination spray for auto detailing.
We don’t even know if they’re rusting. All these articles are based off a couple pictures posted in a forum from a guy who doesn’t even know what the actual issue is. These articles are just filling in the blanks with speculation.
Bad Company 2 allowed you to demolish just about everything. They seemed to have scaled that back with each new iteration.
Their entire product line really went to shit around 2015, whether you’re talking about phones, TVs, or appliances. Now they just skate by on their previously good reputation and intertia.
