The DNC has been later in August in the past, according to this page on wikipedia. Same goes for the RNC.
But I don’t know if Ohio’s law has always been this way or if it’s newer. Either way, it sounds like in the past that various states have had provisions for this scenario, knowing that this could and did happen. So if I had to guess, the issue is that, like many things in our political system, we relied on traditions and cooperation to maintain the system. And of course, Republicans for the last 8yrs (longer than that, really) no longer want to do that. They’d rather see it all burn down in the name of DJT.
Mainly playing Rimworld, FF7 Rebirth, and a little bit of the Ace Attorney Apollo Justice Trilogy. Also finished the visual Coffee Talk last night.
I know some airports have similar Amazon convenience stores. But they’re not staffless; there’s still at least one person at the exit. Sometimes even another person at the entrance. Yeah it’s quick for me since I’m not waiting in a line or being rung up (though I rarely see people in them compared to the traditional convenience stores), but is the company really saving money? Not that I really care if they are or not, but seems pointless if they still have to staff the stores.
Final Fantasy XIII had Sazh Katzroy. He’s not the main character (that’d be Lightning), but he is an important playable character right from the get-go. He has his own storylines as well.
Hopefully the American people – those are still somehow on the fence – see this and determine that this isn’t the right thing for themselves or the country.
At this point, it’s not about loving Biden or liking Democrats. It’s just about making sure we have adults in the room managing and keeping an eye on things.
Yeah there are a lot of reddit-like behaviors on Lemmy. Often from the very people who say they hate reddit. Of course, why they hate reddit may have nothing to do with user behavior.
Which is a shame. We could do it better this time around, but we’re not. Some are, like many on Beehaw, but equally many or even more aren’t.
There will always be new, perhaps younger, users who come through who don’t know what it was like before. And of course, there will always be more veteran users who perhaps don’t care. I care that reddit is going to shit, but I’m still on it (less than pre-APIgate though). On the other hand, my brother who’s been on reddit almost as long as me, doesn’t care. As long as gets his memes or whatever else he uses reddit for, he’ll be there. He barely knew about that protests last summer.
It seems that the only way a social media actually collapses is when the company itself pulls the plug. Twitter has been circling the drain since Elon bought it, but it’s still one of the main nodes of information from companies, governments, journalists, and just regular people. It’s still used by millions of people daily, even if it’s also used by millions of bots, too. Google+ was in a sad state for a bit, but there were still users. It only died when Google finally shut it down. I think Vine was in a similar situation back in the day.
The Republican Party has been a RINO itself for awhile now. Now it’s official just the DJT/MAGA party.
Whatever. Republicans, “the moderates” as we call them these days crazily enough, have no one to blame but themselves. They didn’t have to sign a pact with the devil, but they did. What’s that thing they like saying about unplanned pregnancies? “Actions have consequences”? There they go. They decided to get fucked, and now they’re paying for it.
We’ll never get rid of these bigots. They’ve always existed. But at least they stayed away from library and school boards and other governance positions back then. Let’s hope they keep doing that going forward.
There are some instances still up, but I think the assumption is that eventually all of them will shutdown with time. I don’t know the exact reason for it (you can read more here), but something was changed on Twitter’s side that will end all of these.
But if it’s not being developed (that’s my assumption as I haven’t touched WordPad in many, many years) and not many people are using it (again, I’m assuming based on my own personal experiences and those in the workplace), what’s wrong with removing a legacy system?
People complain all the time about Microsoft retaining legacy systems, often seemingly detrimentally, so here it is, an opportunity to remove a legacy system, but now it’s bad?
I get that not everyone has Word. But Word isn’t as paywalled as it once was. There’s the web version of Word, that’s free to use with a free Microsoft account. There’s Google Docs, also free with a gmail account. And there’s of course OpenOffice and LibreOffice, obviously free. So users have options for word processing that are better than WordPad.
You’re on Beehaw right now. Be(e) nice and civil: https://docs.beehaw.org/docs/core-principles/beeple-code-of-conduct/
You can use Nitter.net to help “expose” the tweets and threads. Here’s this one: https://nitter.net/CeciliaFae/status/1749183059877085396
Already donated to the group. And won’t be the last time. They have a great name, by the way: Missourians for Constitutional Freedom. It’s a very Republican-esque name that hides what they’re doing. Likes Moms for Liberty or Freedom Caucus or Lincoln Project. If there’s anything I’ve learned from the right, it’s that sometimes you gotta play like they do.
As a Missourian, I hope I’ll be able to sign the petition in my district. If we successfully get this onto the November ballot, I’m confident it’ll pass. Missouri may be deep red, but that’s only when it comes to electing politicians. When the people are able to vote on initiatives and referenda, the more “liberal” issues tend to win out. Recreational marijuana. Medicinal Marijuana. Lobbying/campaigning/redistricting reform (unfortunately this one got repealed, but just barely). Minimum wage increase. Idk if that’s because of the power of the cities, but then you’d think that our US senator and high state office elections would be more competitive, but they’re not.
Either way, let’s get this on this ballot!
PRC is Taiwan’s largest trading partner (2022 data). And According to this Reuter’s article from a few days ago, China is also Taiwan’s number one destination for investment. So I suppose it’s not surprising that the ruling class has connections to Chinese money and industry.
I guess in some ways, this is similar to the US and China as trading partners, even though they’re geopolitical rivals. Obviously Taiwan has a lot more to fear than the US does if things go south, but I wonder how much Taiwan-PRC economic ties play a role in preventing an outbreak of hostilities.
Though people said the same thing of Russia, especially after 2014 and look how that turned out. Of course, China isn’t Russia. So maybe it does help.
Doesn’t COPPA already require this for children under 13? This state bill raises it to under 16.
I guess it comes down to the particulars. Is there something more onerous in the Ohio bill than in COPPA? Because I don’t think I’ve heard of any company seriously getting mad that COPPA is a thing.
I mentioned on another discussion board that I may have to start factoring in the plane manufacturer as I choose flights. Which is insane in this day and age. Unfortunately, Southwest is the carrier with the most flights and direct routes at my home airport, and Southwest only flies Boeing 737s. Plus, SWA is trying to replace their older 737s with 737 MAX models.
I’ve started flying Delta some last year, but like you said, Delta has both Boeing and Airbus in their fleet. But even if I did only choose Airbus flights with Delta, it’s not like they (and all other carriers) don’t sometimes change planes at the last minute, as needs dictate. Rarely, if ever, would I have the luxury to be like “Nope, nevermind, I’m not getting on that plane,” if that were to happen.
I know air travel is super, super, super safe compared to all other forms of transportation. You’re right that the odds of an incident are incredibly slim, given there are several tens of thousands of commercial passenger flights across the world each day that move millions of people. But boy does it feel like Boeing is aiming to change that, just so they can get some more pennies and dollars here and there. Shameful.
Just saw this other article about the UK arresting two alleged spies for China. Wonder if the German and UK investigations were a joint op. And if we’ll soon hear about other countries arrests of others for working with Chinese intelligence.
