  • I played through FarbCry 3 and 4 and started getting into 5 recently.

    I just couldn’t.

They got markedly worse reach time. I was able to finish 4, but the “THIS IS AN UBISOFT GAME” vibe became more and more shameless. It felt gross, it was filtered through something ugly. I never felt the love for it that Far Cry 3 earned. I still vividly remember visiting the first shop and seeing “Painted Pachyderms! Spend Uplay points to make all the elephants colorful!” It was on the front page, it was so fucking UbiSoft. It made sure I’d never see the gun stores in FC3’s successor as gun stores in any kind of immersive way.

With FC5, it just got worse.

I think I want to try Far Cry 2 some time, I think I used to play it a very long time ago but I barely remember it. I remember the malaria shots and the very flammable grass.

I can’t name it all, but it felt significantly smoother with my Intuous tablet, and the zoom function was nice and useable, unlike Krita’s.

I had a cracked CC 2015 or something for a while, failed to back it up before I formatted my PC, didn’t find another. Settled for CS5 for a while and it was a marked downgrade, felt significantly worse to paint in.

Eventually my harddrive crashed and I lost that one too, but I didn’t really care as I mostly gave up drawing after losing the CC one. I’ve tried Krita enough over the last few years to know I’ll never enjoy digital art again unless I fork out for Adobe, who demand a steep subscription service, rights to everything you make, and if you buy a lifetime license I’ve seen multiple reposts that they have proven they won’t honor it. Frankly, I do not enjoy the 2020s at all. In general I feel like it would be completely fine if we managed to just wipe ourselves out sometime soon.

  • I sometimes check out Lemmy while I’m mostly on reddit.

Been on Lemmy more recently as I’ve experienced a few “holy shit this site is bot infested” wake up calls on Reddit. One of those reposts with duplicate comment chains from a year prior. I even responded to one of them *shudders*

Lemmy is still pretty meager, but it might grow further. What seems clear to me is that Lemmy has a lot of users that actively don’t want to attract the full Reddit crowd, in other words they don’t want Lemmy to outgrow Reddit.

I think Lemmy is cursed by it’s users to remain an insignificant niche alternative, even if it grows a little further.
