The only “miscommunication” was that they didn’t obfuscate the terms through legalese more thoroughly.

Sony really needs to get their shit together. It seems like they’ve been pissing off all their communities these last couple weeks.
I’m actually really surprised that Valve is loosening up on this one. They usually play hardball when it comes to refunding a game past the 2 hour mark.
Going by the price being listed in what appears to be USD, I’m going to assume this is a US player, but is there any confirmation on where this person is from? My theory was that Valve wouldn’t issue refunds unless you were from a soon-to-be-unsupported region, so that could change my thoughts on things.
EDIT: Also just noticed this was a refund back to the Steam wallet, and not to the original payment method. I’ve not refunded a game on Steam in many years, but is this their standard practice these days?
I feel sorry for the Arrowhead devs. They made a spectacular game that was revered across the entire industry and loved by its fans, and their overlords at Sony went and caused so much damage to their reputation overnight. Literally just 24 hours ago people were writing articles about how Helldivers 2 is the right way to make a game and should be an example for the rest of the industry, and then Sony calls in a hellbomb on the reviews.
There are a lot of complaints about this, but the two most legitimate ones are:
Ahh yeah, that’s a good point, I forgot about the recovery process. In that case, yeah I can absolutely see this saving a bunch of time when transferring devices.
I don’t get the hype over this. How often do you find your day interrupted by Play Store downloads that one finds this to be an important upgrade? My apps generally update while I’m asleep, I pretty much never need to wait for them.
What have they done recently that made you decide not to buy from them, that they haven’t already been doing for 30+ years to begin with? Nintendo’s lawsuits against emulator devs aren’t a new phenomenon; they’ve been shutting down emulator/ROM projects since the 90s.
This whole post and discussion is paid shillery.
People aren’t being shills, you’re just being a moron. Your comment had nothing to do with the article in question and was nothing more than irrelevant ranting, which is why people were downvoting you.
This would be trademark, not copyright.
I’m about to start Witcher 3 for the first time on my next days off work. Picked it up on a really good sale a couple weeks ago, but have been too engrossed with Helldivers 2 lately to actually start playing it.
Wouldn’t that require modifying the game in some way to function? At that point, it’s already an EULA-violating action which a publisher would normally revoke a license over, anyway. So why not just use pirated/cracked copies if the community’s going to go the route of hosting their own network, anyway?
I’m not familiar with The Crew or its community, so I’m just not understanding what practical difference this makes for anybody still trying to play the game at this post-shutdown time.
Wasn’t this an online-only game that was already being shut down? What good is a license if there’s no way to play?
You could do that, but would there be any advantage over springs? That seems like a very expensive, over-engineered solution.
Man, I can’t believe how long it’s been since TF2 came out. Really sweet to see the voice actors are still in love with their characters, though!
Why do you think Kotick is “the enemy”? Kotick has already worked extensively with and supported the CCP through Blizzard. Pretty sure they’re on good terms.
Sometimes I love to entertain the idea of a timeline in which SEGA never dropped out of the hardware scene and was still a viable 4th option in the console space. It’d be real interesting to see what the gaming landscape would look like today if the Dreamcast had better market performance.
Though, I kinda expect Nintendo to be the next one of the Big Three to stop making hardware, if anybody. I know they’ve got plans for a Switch successor already, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Nintendo decides to either offer themselves up for a merger, or just goes purely software and starts making Marios and Zeldas for Playstation.
