Gotcha. Ok. This article makes a whole lot more sense now. Thank you!!

…Yet both Android and Apple phones use MEMS silicon for their devices, so why were only Apple phones affected? The answer, it seems, is because Apple recently defected from traditional quartz-based clocks in its phones in favor of clocks that are also made of MEMS silicon.
So, they ask the question of why iPhones are the only ones affected if androids also went to MEMS, then answer it by saying that apple went to MEMS. Are they saying that the clocks in Androids still use quartz, but iPhones use MEMS clocks, even though they both use general MEMS silicon?
Edit, autocorrect
I’ve used them. The crease is not unnoticeable. Sure, you may forget it’s there after a while, but it is still there. And that’s not what I was talking about. Specifically, the delamination that tends to occur after extended use. That’s the issue they need to figure out. And to your camera point: my phone has a cutout, and I hate it. It always gets in the way. Yes, I get used to it, but it’s there, and it blocks a small part of the screen.
My point with all of this, is not that these folding phones suck and shouldn’t be made just because it has a crease. I hate the notch. I can’t stand the crease. This doesn’t mean they bother you. My point, however, is that unless this is actually new, it’s not new and is, therefore, irrelevant.
Edit: as an aside, I’ve owned a Xiaomi, and it was the worst phone I have ever used. Actually, it was awesome for about 5 months, then started degrading, then turned itself off randomly after the 6-month time. I had to replace it after 6 months. To give perspective, I keep phones for years. The phone before that Xiaomi lasted 5 years, before it started having battery issues.
Did they fix the screen crease? If not, then this release is irrelevant, as it brings nothing new to the table.
Edit: I really hope SOMEONE figures out the screen crease, because the concept of foldable phones is amazing. Just, poorly executed currently.
No mitigation method… am I reading this right?
GNU Taler looks neat. Hopefully it will take off.
The optional part of the donation payments is what makes them a donation. It can be a fund page, like the buymeacoffee, if the git link is too complicated (which it can be for some).
No, I understood what they’re trying to do. As far as I know, there are no foss payment processors, so adding a non-foss one would defy fdroid’s current foss-first approach.
Then, people on this post’s comments are saying that they would be good with a “pay what you can/want” concept, but, again, that’s already the case with donations. It’s literally how donations work.
I never expected this. What a shame.
Edit: the ads part are not an acceptable add-on for me, as someone who respects privacy and foss. I don’t know of a single foss payment processor (lmk if one exists). A lot of people here are saying “pay what you want”, but it’s that way now, with GitHub donation links; we don’t need this in the fdroid app.
It was one of the best movies of its time.
Great choices!
It can, but it doesn’t have to (or at least it didn’t used to). But if you ever choose to leave, you can’t export anything (or, at least you couldn’t). My statement is using old information, at least a year old, since that’s about when I hardpassed on them.
Edit: correct autocorrect
Aegis all the way. Looked at authy and hardpassed after reading the permissions it requires. Your job is to calculate the OTP. You don’t need wifi access if you’re an offline OTP calculator.
What about LibreCAD? Is it still in the running?
Honor magic V3
9.2mm folded! Holy crap, that’s thin!
For developers, Google warns apps must “provide a stable, responsive, and engaging user experience… Apps that crash, do not have the basic degree of adequate utility as mobile apps, lack engaging content, or exhibit other behavior that is not consistent with a functional and engaging user experience are not allowed on Google Play.”
They kind of just described nearly all of their own apps [as unfit for the Play Store]…
Iirc fmri tech is not quite there. But if they can get it right, even 50% of the time, it’ll be better than what we have now and worth further study resources.
Edit: I see now that there’s a whole discussion thread about how unreliable fmri is. Should have read before commenting.
So, like Fruity Loops, but for novices and FOSS? Did I understand the git md right?
I mean… they do have protein, fruits, and such, so, yes. But I was craving some pasta. I guess a crepe is like a sweet pasta. I did feel the craving vanish… …
I was traveling this week, and saw a couple very obviously AI-generated billboards for the city’s downtown. Something about downtown eats or something. They were, and I’m being extremely nice here, absolutely hideous. I have never, in all my life, seen such ugly billboards. And, while they were different, they were basically the same thing (does that make sense? Them being different, but the same? Not really sure how else to describe it). I was actually looking for a place to eat, and those things deterred me from going downtown. Ended up finding this cute little coffeeshop in some random side road. No food, but holy crap the coffee and crepes were good!
Super cool concept. But I will never own another Huawei.
