The argument it’s a different game mode and not DLC is kinda dumb.

You bought the version that guarantees all DLC for the game forever and now they bring out something and say oh no this isn’t DLC it’s a different mode. They sure as shit aren’t posting the disk out to people so it’s still Dowoladable content

It’s absolutely just wordplay so they can scam more money out of consumers. Arguably Arena could be considered DLC also, but that’s even more of a seperate mode than this. It sounds like there’s now just progression tied to the existing offline raid mode, which is obviously just trying to capitalise on the increasing popularity of SP Tarkov.

I don’t think it’s really possible for them to shut down SP Tarkov (due to BattleState’s immeasurable copyright breaches themselves), so it’s wild if anyone actually pays $250 for this.

It is still a pretty great game. I only ever played with the cheapest standard edition and had no problems.

I still do have some regrets about who I have given my money to, but there is no other game quite like it and a lot of industry giants and indies have tried (and are still trying) to emulate it without success.

lot of industry giants and indies have tried

        No they haven’t.

        It’s not a hard formula.

Instanced maps, loot, use loot to upgrade outside of instance in a way that helps your next playthough, Player has experience points and leveling of skills,

No other game does this, and any industry giants that claim to have tried have missed 1 of the 4 core elements.

The obligatory “I think you meant rogue-lite not rogue-like” because the roguelike community is very pedantic about their definition and Tarkov literally could not be a roguelike.

But it’s also not the EXACT same formula as a roguelite. For starters there are no PVP roguelites so the entire PVP aspect of the game is already huge deviation from that the formula. Secondly death is a mechanic in roguelites. You die, you made some progress, you start again usually with some new twist of the new character. In Tarkov death is a failure state. Sure, you can make some progress in some quests or hideout upgrades, but overall you will lose progress whenever you die (lost equipment, lost quest items that you took into raid, cost of healing up, cost of getting new equipment etc). Void Bastards is the closest roguelite that is comparable to Tarkov. There are a lot of similarities there, but they’re also very different in many ways.

Not to mention the Tarkov we are can currently play (and what most likely will also be the final release) is also a very different game compared to what Nikita (game director) originally envisioned. What Nikita envisioned was something between the current Tarkov and STALKER games. Not in the mutants and anomalies way but in the way of how the maps connect and how you need to actually traverse “the world” to do the quests. If you’ve played Tarkov enough you know that the maps already connect, some extractions literally tell you how they connect to the other areas and you can see the same landmarks on different maps. But it’s becoming clearer that they’re not actually going to finalize the original vision, they’re going to make the ending and then push the game out the door.

I always mix up roguelike and roguelite so thank you for explaining.

I don’t know how they plan to manage the Hideout if they want to have this open world.

Nobody knows exactly how it would’ve worked, but people speculated that the bunker extracts would connect to the hideout.

It is, but just because two games follow the same formula for their gameplay loop doesn’t mean they will be equally good. There are a LOT of other factors.

Regarding how bad BattleState Games are; I changed my email address a while back and because I have no access to the old address I cannot update my BSG account to the new address. I’ve spent months in contact with BSG and supplied them with everything short of a DNA sample but they will not update the address.

I can still access the account, but not the game, and there is no way to update the address without going through BSG support. I’ve also spoken out on their forums amongst others with the same issue with no response from BSG.

I bought 2 Edge of Darkness editions (one for my ex-partner) and yet I cannot play the game at all. Fuck BSG, good game, dogshit company.

I feel like they use the email address as a primary key in their database and need to copy an account and duplicate it to set it to another mail.

It’s the only possible explanation I see as to why they don’t let us do it.

It’s either that or something to do with combating RMT and multiple account creation for hacking accounts.

Either way it’s funny that out of the few companies I’ve had to go through this with only BSG has been so painful.

The game scratches an itch for me that no other video games has ever been able to. Really sucks that the devs are awful. Really hoping a good replacement game comes out sometime.

This makes me laugh so hard.

EFT fanboys shelled out big bucks ($140) to buy the edge of darkness edition that promised a bunch of stuff - including coveted gamma containers that gave you expanded inventory space. Importantly, it promised free access to ALL future DLC. It was removed from the store in January without any reason.

Today Battlestate Games announced the “Unheard of Edition” for $250 that gives increased rep gain, inventory space, items and loot, and access to offline progression and PvE modes. It gives you special pockets that carry full mags. It gives you unique items and weapons. It is so clearly pay to win and so expensive that even the EFT fanboys are pissed. And people who bought EfD have the pleasure of buying this new version like everyone else because it’s not a DLC - it’s a new game mode, apparently.

BSG responded to the backlash in the healthiest way possible: by doubling down. Today, after a competitor (Arena Unleashed or some shit) mocked them on Twitter, BSG retweeted them - giving them more free advertising than they’ve had in any form. Absolutely incredible to watch this shitty company implode.

The most incredible thing is that all of this is bullshit. BSG has convinced people that playing Tetris with their inventory is actually Gritty Realism to the extent that they think their players will pay $250 to get an 8x8 box and bigger pockets. Next thing you know, you’ll be able to pay a mere $300 to have an in-game map and vendors that consistently sell things.

Sure…be mad at the developer, but also be mad at the fools paying $250 to win as the only reason it is offered, is because people are buying.

Anyone know the status of the single player tarkov project? Been a while since I looked at it, and I’d like to bring it into the discussion when the parent company is threatening the community essentially.

They just updated it to the latest patch about a month ago, which is much better in a lot of ways (big recoil/weapon handling improvements namely). It’s in a really great state to be honest, I tried it out when I got bored of the current wipe a couple of months ago befpre the update and was really impressed.

I havent checked on it for a couple of weeks, but the mod makers were updating their mods to he compatible pretty fast. You can basically customise the entire experience with what’s out already.

Still alive and going strong, only takes a couple weeks for them to update to the latest version of tarkov live. Some people even like to stay in tarkov.

Anyone who values PvP combat will always go back.

There are a lot of advantages to the SP version though. Zero cheaters, customizablity and loading times cut down to about 1/10th of the time of live are the big ones.

Yeah, Into The Radius is VR only. Gotta play the STALKER mods like Call of Chernobyl, Misery, Gamma, or Anomaly for a similar non-VR experience. Maybe even Metro Exodus
