Faraday waves are standing waves on the surface of a vibrating liquid. Large-wavelength polygonal Faraday waves are now observed in concave water containers, the dynamics of which bear resemblance to Faraday waves seen in Bose–Einstein condensates.

Some patterns formed by water waves are surprisingly similar to ones seen in exotic states of matter called Bose–Einstein condensate. Shaking water in a container that has a parabola-shaped base can generate wave patterns shaped like ellipses, triangles, squares and pentagons.
