I ran some tests from Mastodon and NodeBB and wanted to share them with you.

The Mastodon test worked, and the formatting was received correctly (except for the superscript, which is a bit of a glitch-soc anomaly).

However, I noticed a problem: the Lemmy community isn’t sending the “reshare” signal to Mastodon. My Mastodon post isn’t shared by the actor @test_comm@voyager.lemmy.ml, which is unusual, since Lemmy used to share it in the past.

Writing a Lemmy 1.0 post on a NodeBB community (= federated category) also worked correctly. This is Lemmy’s post:

But, while the response from NodeBB (https://citiverse.it/post/1052) isn’t captured, the one from Mastodon (https://voyager.lemmy.ml/post/17128) is read correctly.

The problem is that Lemmy 1.0 can’t “interpret” NodeBB posts correctly.

This post (https://citiverse.it/topic/343/writing-test-from-nodebb) was actually written by my account @fedeverso@citiverse.it to NodeBB on the correct community (https://citiverse.it/category/test_comm@voyager.lemmy.ml) but isn’t read by Lemmy 1.0.

I think it might be a problem with the latest versions of NodeBB, since it doesn’t seem to work on my Lemmy 0.19.19 either, while in the past I was able to write correctly from NodeBB to Lemmy: https://feddit.it/post/19939162

Finally, I’ve found that the poor post citation feature integrated into Mastodon makes Lemmy posts practically unreadable. The NodeBB developers have actually solved the problem, but I understand how annoying it is to modify the code of a working software just because the Mastodon developers wanted to do their own thing… https://voyager.lemmy.ml/post/17129

Fortunately, the problem is solvable by Mastodon users. Mastodon posts can be read correctly if you write a post without using Mastodon’s (terrible) built-in citation feature, but instead write the post text first and then paste the link to the post you want to cite.

Be careful, though: I’ve discovered that if you paste the message link into a blank post, Mastodon will immediately convert that message into a “quote message” in Mastodon format.
